Privacy policy
Count8 runs branded media hubs for dance schools and events — each at its own address such as bc.count8.app — plus this website. This policy explains what personal information we handle, why, and the choices you have. We're based in Melbourne, Australia, and we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988.
The short version. We use your information to let you sign in, show you the videos and photos from events you took part in, and — only if you switch it on — find the ones you appear in. We don't sell personal information, we don't run advertising trackers, and we don't share your data with advertisers.
Who is responsible
Count8 provides the platform. Each media hub belongs to the school or event that runs it (for example, Bachata Corazon runs bc.count8.app). The school decides what footage is published and who gets access; we operate the service on their behalf and handle the information as described here. If you have a question about a particular hub, you can ask the school or contact us directly.
What we collect
When you use a media hub
- Account details — your email address and name. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address and a unique account identifier from that provider. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email", we only receive a private relay address.
- Sign-in information — a password if you choose to set one (stored only as a one-way hash), and short-lived sign-in codes we email to you.
- Event access — which events you're registered for or checked in to, so we can show you the right content. This may come from the school's booking or check-in system.
- Activity — what you play, save, share and download, and roughly how much of a video you watched. When you're signed out we use a temporary, per-visit identifier that isn't a device fingerprint and can't follow you to other sites.
- Photos and videos — the event footage published by the school, which may show you.
- Messages you send us — feedback or help requests.
Face matching (optional, off by default)
If you turn on face matching, we store a face template (a numeric signature of your face) and the selfie you provide, and use them only to find the photos and videos you appear in and to let you download videos of yourself. A face template is biometric information, so we only collect it with your express consent, and only from people who confirm they are 18 or older. Your matches are visible to you and to the admins of that school's hub. You can delete your face data at any time from Profile → My Face, which removes your template, selfie and matches.
When you use this website
If you request pilot access, we collect the name, school or event, email address and phone number you enter, and add them to our customer records so we can follow up. This website doesn't use analytics or advertising cookies.
How we use it
- to sign you in and keep you signed in;
- to show you the content you have access to, and (if enabled) the content you appear in;
- to send you service emails — sign-in codes, and notices that new footage is ready (you can change which emails you get from the hub's email preferences);
- to understand which content is useful, in aggregate, so schools know what to film and post;
- to keep the service secure, prevent misuse, and fix problems;
- to respond to your enquiries and, for pilot enquiries, to talk to you about Count8.
Who we share it with
We don't sell personal information. We share it only with:
- The school or event that runs the hub you use, so they can manage access and content.
- Service providers that run the platform for us: Microsoft Azure (hosting, database and media storage, in Australia), Google Firebase and Apple (only when you choose to sign in with them), and our email and customer-records provider (to send service emails and manage enquiries).
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
Some of these providers may process information outside Australia. Where that happens, we rely on them to protect it to a standard comparable to the Australian Privacy Principles.
How long we keep it
We keep your account while it's in use. Viewing activity is kept for about 12 months and then deleted automatically. Event footage is kept for as long as the school keeps it published. Face data is kept until you delete it or your account is removed. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove or anonymise your personal information, except where we need to keep a record by law.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit, stored in access-controlled cloud services, and available only to people who need it to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you and the regulator if a breach is likely to cause you serious harm.
Your choices and rights
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct it, or to delete your account and data;
- turn face matching off and delete your face data at any time;
- change or stop the emails we send you.
To do any of these, email hello@count8.app. We'll reply within 30 days. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Children
Count8 is designed for adults. Face matching is only available to people who confirm they are 18 or older. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when our practices change, and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app or by email.
